Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 earlier in the year, marketed as a more efficient chip of the generation, with raw performance sitting in between the current and previous generation chips. It looks like the trend is continuing, but now with another series, with the unveiling of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4s Gen 2.
As with the flaghip series, this new chipset features performance in between the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 and 4 Gen 2, with the focus on efficiency instead. From the announcement, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 is a 4nm running two performance cores at up to 2GHz and six 1.8GHz efficiency cores. It can also support LP-DDR4x 2133 MHz RAM.
Devices equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 can run up to Full HD+ 90Hz screens, WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1. Camera related features include up to 16MP dual-camera or 32MP single-camera with 30 fps zero shutter lag, up to 84MP stills, as well as up to 1080p 60 fps recording. Though the modem that comes with the chip limits downlink speeds to 1Gbps.
As for phones that will come with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 chipset, Xiaomi is again among the earliest brands to be adopting it. The first device with the chip is expected to be announced before the end of the year.
