It appears that there are multiple reports from ASUS ROG Ally owners that the brand’s latest Armoury Crate 1.5 SE software update is causing some problems for them. And by problems, they actually mean major issues that include crashing the handheld console.
As a quick primer, the new Armoury Crate 1.5 SE launched together with the newer and more recent Ally X, and was released later as an update for the original gaming handheld. Sadly, and as mentioned, the revamped software currently isn’t playing nice with a handful of units of the older console.
Some issues observed from the Armoury Crate 1.5 SE on the Ally include AMD Radeon Super Resolution (RSR) no longer working, the TDP settings suddenly going missing, consistent crashing, and the OS modes just being sluggish all around. If you’ve had the misfortune of updating your Ally, a Reddit user has posted a fix of sorts. Simply follow the instructions below:
- Uninstall Armory Crate SE with https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/14Utilities/Armoury_Crate_Uninstall_Tool.zip
- Restart Ally
- Reinstall with the Armory Crate SE installer here https://rog.asus.com/gaming-handhelds/rog-ally/rog-ally-2023/helpdesk_download/
- Do NOT start the new Armory Crate SE. Restart Ally
- Start Armory Crate SE 1.5
It should also be noted that Ally consoles powered by the less-powerful Ryzen Z1 were largely unaffected, with consoles powered by the more potent Z1 Extreme SoC having been more drastically affected. At the time of writing, we are still waiting for a response from ASUS.
