Thermal Grizzly recently released its latest thermal cooling solution for desktop CPUs, known simply as the PhaseSheet pad. Simply put, the pad is made out of a phase-changing thermal paste that changes its state depending on the temperature.
Specifically, the PhaseSheet comes packaged in a solid-state, making it easy to apply on to a CPU. Upon application and when the processor temperature exceeds 45°C, it liquefies into something of a low-viscosity paste, akin to your typical thermal paste.
One benefit being touted by Thermal Grizzly about its PhaseSheets is that it is thin enough that it avoids the “pump-out” effect, where the constant expansion and contraction of the integrated heat spreader (IHS) causes the thermal paste that is typically applied to be pushed out to the side. This phenomenon is usually evident by said thermal paste normally found pooling at the processor’s edges. This of course, leads to some performance and thermal throttling of the CPU.
For another matter, the PhaseSheet doesn’t come cheap, with the phase-changing material costing US$10.60 (~RM50) for a piece measuring 50 x 40mm. And while intentionally designed to be paired with a desktop CPU, the fluff on Thermal Grizzly’s product page seems to suggest that it could be moulded and repurposed as thermal pads for a GPU and, to some extent, the VRMs surrounding it. At the time of writing, Thermal Grizzly did not specify local pricing.
