AMD may have delayed the availability of its Ryzen 9000 Series CPUs, but some folks are still doing the good Lord’s work by pushing the boundaries of the top-tier Ryzen 9 9950X to its engineering limit. On that note, someone managed to push it well past its 5.7GHz default boost clock and up to 6GHz.
To be precise, someone with an engineering sample of the 9950X managed to overclock it to run at a new maximum boost clock of 5.96GHz, which is basically 6GHz. It’s not mention exactly what sort of cooling measures were being to use achieve said clockspeeds but at this point, it’s safe to assume that a generous amount of LN2 was used in the individual’s conquest.

To that end, the overclocker posted the Geekbench performance scores of the roided-out 9950X, its multi-core score reaching 26,013 point at its peak but more impressive is the 3,704 points it scored in the single-core test.
It is worth noting that this isn’t the fastest or highest frequency that a 9950X has been made to achieve. The highest-recorded boost clock for the CPU currently stands at 6.7GHz and, naturally, a lot of liquid nitrogen had been used. For that matter, the substance isn’t something that is readily available or even affordable, so if you’re just getting the CPU for bragging rights or straight gaming, believe us when we tell you that 5.7GHz is more than plenty.
