The PC adapter for the PS VR2 will be available on 7 August, as was announced last month. While it was as official as it got, there’s now even more confirmation that it will be compatible with Steam. An app specifically for the headset, fittingly called the PlayStation VR2 App, as appeared on the storefront.
According to its page, Steam says that the PS VR2 app “needs to be installed on your PC” to be able to play VR games through the platform using the headset. So you cannot just delete it once you’ve paired your headset to your PC or your Steam account. But once all that is done, you’ll be able to also update the firmware for the headset and its Sense controllers.
The Steam PS VR2 app’s Steam page also says that you can set up your play area and screen brightness, but the SteamVR dashboard is specifically mentioned for this. With that it mind, it remains to be seen what the app actually does beyond being a 700MB driver package.
At the moment, Steam won’t let you download the PS VR2 app. Instead, it has a release date of 6 August, which lines up somewhat with the PC adapter’s release. To reiterate, said adapter was announced with a price tag of RM279.
