The iPhone 14 Pro launched it 2022 saw the introduction of the Dynamic Island alongside it. While it was ultimately a disguise for the notch which Apple itself introduced with the iPhone X, on its own it made a lot of sense from a UX point of view. One Android phone maker have tried to ape it, and now it looks like Samsung could be another, via OneUI 7.
Leakster @chunvn8888 on X, previously Twitter, has claimed that the upcoming Samsung Android OS overlay will be coming with its own version of both Dynamic Island, and Live Activities within it. There’s not much else in terms of details beyond that it’s coming with OneUI 7, unfortunately.
OneUI 7 has Samsung's version of Apple's Dynamic Island and Live Activities.
That's the tweet, good night.— Chun Bhai (@chunvn8888) July 24, 2024
Android devices have not traditionally had a massive notch on their screens, and in the case of Samsung, it’s usually a punch-hole cutout instead. That being the case, one imagines it’s not difficult to implement, since there’s a lot of space between all your notifications and your signal and battery indicators anyway. Definitely enough to squeeze in an expandable bubble the size of a notification popup, anyway.
That being said, it would take a lot more than just OneUI 7 to deal with the fact that it will cause a lot of smudging on that part of the screen, which will be a hassle for selfie enthusiasts. At any rate, it’s still a rumour to be taken with a pinch of salt.
