With just about every major phone maker now having a foldable smartphone of some kind, or at least plans for one, the rumour mill has unsuprisingly looped Apple into the mix. With the bitten fruit specifically, there have been many, and often contradictory, claims about its upcoming foldable devices that it keeping track of them all can be overwhelming. But for what it’s worth, a new report is corroborating one claim, which is that of a clamshell-style foldable iPhone that’s coming in 2026.
This time, the claim comes from sources to The Information, who claim that the device “has moved beyond the conceptual stage” and is “in development with suppliers”. It is reportedly also being referred to internally as the V68, with the bitten fruit brand working specifically to flatten the crease when the device is unfolded, which is an understandable endeavour.
Though as mentioned, there have been more than a handful of other claims of foldable Apple devices slated for 2026 beyond just a clamshell iPhone. This includes a foldable tablet, with some claims that it will replace the iPad mini. Then there’s another for a larger device that’s around the ballpark of a MacBook, at least size-wise.
Either way, it will be awhile before any of these show up in any meaningful way. Closer to the present is, naturally, this year’s batch of iPhone models, with a rumoured new variant, as well as hardware upgrades to facilitate AI features.
