Samsung has decided to no longer utilise their messaging apps but instead replace them with Google Messages. With Samsung being second to the Pixel to receive various features and functions from Google, all new devices in the US will no longer come with Samsung Messages preinstalled.
Samsung Messages will no longer be preloaded starting with the Galaxy Z Flip6, the Fold6, and newer models. Instead, it will be operating under Google Messages, which was confirmed by Max Weinbach of Creative Strategist on Twitter.
Samsung hasn’t acknowledged whether or not this applies globally. According to Mishaal Rahman of Android Authority, the US version of the new Galaxy Z Fold6 came without its parent company’s Messages app but is still available for download for folks purchasing within Europe and Canada.
It should also be noted that RCS will be enabled by default in the Google Messages app, as it has been a pillar for messaging on Galaxy smartphones since the launch of the Galaxy S22 in 2022. Nevertheless, the Samsung Messages app will still remain available for download through the Galaxy Store, though the Korean electronics brand has mentioned that some of its functions will be removed going forward.
