Earlier this month, AMD showed off the prowess of its Ryzen 9950X behind closed doors at its Tech Day. Recently, an Anandtech forum user by the name of igor_kavinski posted their recent benchmarks of the Zen5 CPU trading blows with the Intel Core i9-14900KS.
It should be noted that the user had already provided an overview of the 9950X and its performance using Blender under a variety of power profiles. In this case, Igor reportedly retested the CPU – it’s an engineering sample – using 10 different power profiles, and using Cinebench R23.
While running the 9950X on an unlimited power profile, the CPU reportedly peaked at 5.5GHz on all cores and consumed a whopping 309W of power. Even more surprisingly, its maximum temperature seemingly peaked 79°C across the board which, again, is pretty darn impressive. As for the multi-core test, the CPU reportedly scored 53,557 points, far higher than the Core i9-14900KS’ average score of 40,000 points. We say average because our resident hardware tester never got the 14900KS from Intel to test.
As a reminder, these scores were generated using an engineering sample of the 9950X, and the scores reported here was taken from one source who also reportedly had a sample of the CPU. Suffice to say, however, the CPU is certainly shaping to be a powerhouse and more importantly, AMD didn’t have to go out of its way to make it using binned chips to make a top-tier CPU.
