If you work in IT, you may have a technical conundrum that affects you specifically going on. There are a number of reports of Windows PCs experiencing the dreaded Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) recently, and the one thing they all have in common is that they make use of the cybersecurity platform known as Crowdstrike.
Granted, the name Crowdstrike is probably not going to be a familiar one to the average Joe. But from a number of reports, PCs of IT folks using it are not only sent to the BSoD, but some are even experiencing boot loops due to the issue. It looks to be affecting both Windows 10 and 11. ABC News reports that it’s affecting major institutions in Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere in the world, while also mentioning something to do with Microsoft Azure being a possibility.

If your organisation does make use of the platform and have been hit by the BSoD, the Crowdstrike Reddit thread notes that the company “is aware of reports of crashes on Windows hosts related to the Falcon Sensor”. While the company is currently working on a fix, said Reddit thread mentions a potential workaround, which involves booting in Safe Mode or the Windows Recovery Environment.
From there, head over to the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\CrowdStrike directory, and remove the file C-00000291*.sys. Alternatively, another user has said that renaming the folder to something else also works. As mentioned, the company is working on a fix, though it’s unclear when that will happen as of yet.
