Remember the Dyson Zone headphones? It’s been so long, most of us have forgotten that Jake Dyson’s company actually released an audio product. Just today, the brand has revealed its second headphones, the OnTrac, which promises high-fidelity audio, active noise cancelling, long battery life, and the ability to swap certain parts with those of a different colour. No included air purifier this time around, though.
The Dyson OnTrac headphones blend premium materials with ergonomic design, with the outer caps made from aluminium, copper, nickel and ceramics, while the ear pads feature ultra-soft microfiber foam cushions. Multi-pivot gimbal arms enhance comfort by relieving pressure, and the battery has been relocated to the headband for better weight distribution. In terms of customisation, both the outer caps and ear pads are swappable, and Dyson claims there are over 2,000 possible combinations with the available parts that are sold separately.
Internally, the OnTrac headphones are equipped with 40mm, 16-ohm neodymium drivers that offer a frequency response range of 6Hz to 21kHz, which impressively surpasses the typical 20Hz to 20kHz range of most headphones. Dyson angled the drivers 13 degrees towards the ears for improved acoustic performance, promising deep sub-bass and clear highs to reveal hidden details in audio.
Meanwhile, its built-in ANC is powered by eight microphones that sample external sounds 384,000 times per second, working with a custom noise-cancelling algorithm and precise internal geometry to block 40dB of noise. As for battery life, Dyson says the two onboard high-capacity lithium-ion battery cells on the OnTrac can deliver up to 55 hours of use with ANC activated. Also featured is a quick charging capability, a joystick for playback controls, and even tap-based functions.
The new Dyson OnTrac is priced at US$500 (~RM2,333), and is available in four colour combinations: Aluminum/Orange, Copper/Blue, Black Nickel, and Ceramic Red. Meanwhile, the extra caps and cushions are sold separately for US$50 (~RM233) per set. Unfortunately, the headphones aren’t available in Malaysia, but those interested are encouraged to register their interest via the brand’s local website.
