Samsung’s Live Translate, a feature offered by the brand’s Galaxy AI suite, now supports third-party apps. This is available via the brand’s One UI 6.1.1 firmware, which is currently available first via its newly launched Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 foldable smartphones.
Prior to this, Live Translate was limited to the first-party Phone app on supported Galaxy devices. On the new Galaxy Z foldables, the feature now supports voice call functions offered by WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Google Meet, Instagram, Kakao Talk, LINE, Signal, Telegram, and WeChat.
To recap, the Live Translate feature converts voice from any supported language to your preferred supported language in real-time. Text versions of the translated conversation will be displayed on screen as well. According to Samsung, all of Live Translate’s processing is done on-device, ensuring that your data stays private.
To activate the feature in supported apps, you’ll have to be in a voice call first. Once connected, pull down the Quick Panel menu and then tap on Live Translate to have it activated. It’s a bit tedious, so here’s to hoping that Samsung will make it more easily accessible in a future update.
