Xiaomi has revealed its first compact foldable smartphone, the Mix Flip, via its official account on Weibo. It also revealed the device’s key specifications, such as the equipped chipset and battery capacity, as well as other features.
Based on what’s shown, the Xiaomi Mix Flip offers a familiar clamshell form factor that most of us are familiar with. What’s interesting is the large external display, which takes up most of its top cover, allowing for more screen estate for wallpapers and supported apps.
Another thing worth pointing out is the thickness of the device in both folded and unfolded forms. From what can be observed, it appears that the Mix Flip may be thinner than Samsung’s recently launched Galaxy Z Flip6, though don’t take our word for it just yet. Other than that, two large vertically arranged camera bumps are also visible on the display.
Specs-wise, for now Xiaomi has revealed that the Mix Flip will come equipped with a flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, along with UFS 4.0 storage, LPDDR5X RAM, and a 3D vapour chamber for cooling. Details of its internal display is still not known at this time, but the company confirmed that the phone will feature a 4-inch cover screen with 1240p resolution and 1,600nits brightness.
Battery-wise, Xiaomi’s inaugural flip model will come with a capacity of 4,780mAh, which is so far the largest for smartphones of this category. The other device with the same battery size is the Honor Magic V Flip, which made its debut in China last month.
As for imaging, the company confirmed that the Mix Flip will feature cameras that are co-developed with Leica. While no specifics are revealed just yet, Xiaomi is hinting that one of the sensors will feature a “large aperture”.
The new Xiaomi Mix Flip is slated to launch alongside the Mix Fold 4 and Redmi K70 Ultra this Friday on 19 July 2024. There’s no indication whether all three devices will be released outside of China at this time.
