The communications ministry has introduced the Pakej Rahmah Prabayar Siswa, an initiative aimed at supporting secondary school graduates who are advancing their studies at selected Public Institutions of Higher Education (IPTA) and Public Skills Training Institutions (ILKA). As announced by comms minister Fahmi Fadzil today, this package offers a capped rate of RM30 and includes a minimum starting data of 30GB, valid for 180 days.
The Pakej Rahmah Prabayar Siswa will be available starting 16 August 2024 through five major telecommunications service providers: CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile, TM Tech, and YTL Communications’ Yes 5G. It is also an extension of the Rahmah 5G Package introduced last year, designed to provide affordable mobile internet options for students.

Fahmi emphasised the collaboration between the communications ministry and local telcos, aiming to ease the financial burden on students during their studies. He noted that more detailed information about the package will be disseminated by the involved service providers at a later date. Additionally, a complete list of the selected IPTA and ILKA will be made available on the ministry’s website, ensuring transparency and accessibility for all eligible students.
At a subsequent press conference, Fahmi reiterated that the Pakej Rahmah Prabayar Siswa will be initially accessible to students enrolled in IPTA and ILKA institutions. He added there are plans to discuss broader distribution of the package with the telecommunications companies.
