Apple upcoming iOS 18 update is expected to introduce lot of new features. One if which, as pointed out by 9to5Mac, is the addition of a “Recovered” section that’s nestled within the Photos app. Simply put, it’s a photo album that shows you previously lost or damaged photos and videos that are on your device.
This new Apple feature follows an incident where a bug in iOS 17.5 caused previously deleted photos to reappear due to database corruption. The fruit company reassured users that this issue was uncommon, impacting only a limited number of users and photos.
With the “Recovered” album, users now have enhanced control over ensuring the complete deletion of photos and videos. Moreover, it provides users with an additional opportunity to recover photos or videos they believed to be lost.
Take note that this new feature is still somewhat different from the “Recently Deleted” section, where you will only find media files that users deleted themselves. The “Recovered” section is for files that have been damaged or corrupted.
It’s still unclear how long Photos will stay in the “Recovered” album, or if a time limit even exists. Any media files in the “Recently Deleted” section, for instance, have available access to them for only 30 days, after which they will be permanently deleted.
