Elgato is introducing the “Stream Deck” support for iPadOS, revolutionising how you interact with your iPad. An accessory that promises to unleash new capabilities for avid Apple tablet users.
The project is currently in its alpha stage, with plans for a public release scheduled for later in 2024. Rather than releasing the new Stream Deck hardware solely for the iPad, Elgato has developed a “Stream Deck Kit” that allows developers to integrate the Stream Deck functionality into their current iPad applications.
For the physical setup, Elgato has made it simple enough that you just connect the Stream Deck to the iPad’s USB-C port or a compatible USB-C hub.
According to Elgato, the Stream Deck lets you choose how your keypad adapts as your device rotates. Or lock it in place no matter the orientation; however you put it, It’s a bit of multitasking magic. On that note, you can even run two Stream Deck Mobile keypads at the same time.
Users can manipulate iPad apps using customizable buttons and switches developed by creators. When official iPad support launches later this year, users will be required to download the “Stream Deck Connect” app to manage the setup process.
Meanwhile, Elgato’s “Stream Deck Connect” app will include a necessary driver to facilitate communication with physical Stream Deck devices. It will be available for download later this year via the App Store. Once configured, users will be ready to utilise the Stream Deck with any iPadOS application that supports the integration of the Elgato Stream Deck for iPad.
