WhatsApp is working on a new feature that allows users to translate messages directly within the app. According to WABetaInfo, the Meta-owned messaging app plans to integrate Google Translate’s features to its service, likely as a move to provide non-Samsung devices with similar translation capabilities offered by Galaxy AI.
This feature, found in the latest WhatsApp beta update (version 2.24.15.8) on Android, uses Google’s live translation technology and operates on the user’s device. It is likely that initial translation support may be limited, and users are required to download language packs separately.
Based on the screenshot provided, there will be several ways for users to translate their chats. The first is by highlighting chat bubbles and then selecting Translate from the “three dots” menu on the upper right corner of the screen, while the second option involves activating a new Live Translate feature that will interpret messages on the fly. Unlike Galaxy AI’s version, however, it appears that an Interpreter mode for voice calls isn’t available.
Nevertheless, keep in mind that the Google Translate integration on WhatsApp is still under development and testing. That said, it is not known when it will be made available to the public version.
