Insta360 has recently unveiled the Flow Pro, an updated and advanced version of its initial smartphone gimbal accessory. It boasts a three-axis mechanical shake reduction system that outperforms the electronic stabilisation found in most smartphones, ensuring smoother video capture.
One of the standout features of the new Insta360 Flow Pro is its built-in Apple DockKit support, which allows it to track you around automatically. The gimbal leverages the iPhone’s front or rear camera and native camera app to maintain focus and keep the subject in frame, allowing users to move freely without losing tracking. According to the company, the Flow Pro is compatible with over 200 third-party iOS apps, including popular platforms like FaceTime, Zoom, and TikTok.
It also comes with the company’s AI-powered subject tracking with features like tracking recovery (re-acquiring a subject after losing it), person re-identification and slo-mo tracking. When not utilising DockKit, the Flow Pro utilises the company’s Deep Track 3.0 technology, which allows the gimbal to rotate horizontally by 360 degrees while continuously tracking subjects. The feature also supports animal tracking for dogs, cats, and so on.
Additionally, the Flow Pro comes with a built-in selfie stick that extends to 215mm (8.5 inches), a cold shoe for attaching accessories like microphones, and a 2,900mAh battery that can also be used to charge attached smartphones. Other features include “one-step rapid deploy” to unfold the gimbal in one motion, a SmartWheel for quick access to shooting controls, four gimbal modes (auto, follow, pan follow and FPV), and an LED tracking ring that provides a quick visual indication of whether the gimbal is correctly following the subject.
In case you’re wondering, Insta360 confirms that the Flow Pro is compatible with Android smartphones as well. Of course, not pairing it with an iPhone will lock you out of certain features designed for Apple DockKit. A complete list of supported devices can be found via this link.
The Insta360 Flow Pro is available in the US for US$149 (~RM699), which is surprisingly cheaper than the original model. Included with it is a magnetic phone clamp, charge cable, grip cover, and protective pouch. For now, there’s no indication whether the new smart gimbal will be available in Malaysia.
