Sony has unveiled the mirrorless ZV-E10 II, three years after the debut of its predecessor, the ZV-E10. This new model is designed for vloggers, maintaining popular features like the background defocus capability and vari-angle flip screen while introducing several enhancements.
One significant upgrade in the ZV-E10 II is its 26MP Exmor R CMOS sensor, an improvement from the original’s 24MP sensor. Additionally, the camera now includes a larger-capacity NP-FZ100 battery, commonly used in Sony’s full-frame cameras. According to the company, this battery allows for up to 195 minutes of continuous video shooting.
Speaking of which, this model can also record 4K video at up to 30fps with no crop, whereas increasing the framerate count to 60 will introduce a slight 1.1x crop. The ZV-E10 II also comes with a cinematic vlog setting that optimises aspect ratio, frame rate, and autofocus transition speed for a more professional look. Sony has introduced a new vertical-oriented user interface and improved connectivity options for live streaming and data transfer.
The ZV-E10 II lacks a mechanical shutter, making it less suitable for photographing moving subjects, and relies on electronic stabilisation. Additionally, it does not have a viewfinder or the AI processing chip found in higher-end models, although it retains the autofocus performance Sony Alphas are known for. Other than that, it features simplified controls with a touch interface, a Cinematic Vlog mode, as well as dedicated buttons for Bokeh Mode and Product Showcase.
The ZV-E10 II will be available in Malaysia from August 2024 onwards, though local pricing has yet to be revealed. For the US market, Sony’s new vlogging oriented mirrorless camera is priced at US$999 (~RM4,692) for body only or US$1,099 (~RM5,162) when included together with the new PZ 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS II lens, which is claimed to offer better autofocus and video performance.
