With the Unpacked event now behind us, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 has now been officially launched. And for better or worse, it looks like the leak from last week has been mostly accurate, at least on the hardware side of things. Of course, riding on the the generative AI trend, the new foldable flagship has a few new tricks up its sleeve.
But before we get into that, let’s just get the specs of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 out of the way. As was previously listed, there’s a 7.6-inch main display on the inside and a 6.3-inch screen on the outside, with both boasting a 120Hz refresh rate. The chipset is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy – which Qualcomm says the two companies have worked closely together to develop – meaning a slightly clocked up primary core. While the 12GB RAM remains a constant, the phone has now been revealed to come with three choices of storage sizes, but we’ll get to that in a bit.
For its cameras, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 comes with a 50MP main + 12MP wide-angle + 10MP 3x telephoto combo at the back, a 10MP secondary shooter on the external screen’s punch-hole cutout, and a 4MP unit under the main display. The battery is a 4,400mAh pack, and closing out the entire package is an IP48 rating.
As mentioned earlier, with generative AI being all the rage in consumer tech these days, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 also comes with its own share of Galaxy AI features. Naturally, it will sport just about everything that was introduced alongside the Galaxy S24, with a new trick called Sketch to Image being added. This allows you to add the magic touch of generative AI to your sketches either in the brand’s own Notes app, or even on images viewed via the brand’s own Gallery app.
Of course, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 is also getting a trick unique to the foldables. This comes in the form of what is simply called Interpreter. This works similarly to Live Translate, but with the dual screens on the foldable, both parties in a conversation will be able to read the translation of what was said in a conversation.
But with all of the above features locked behind the company’s own apps, the flip side is that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 also comes with Google Gemini. This does mean that saying “Hey Google” will now bring up Gemini rather than the Assistant, but on the flip side, it also means that you can get in-app and context-accurate information in more ways than just Circle to Search.
As mentioned earlier, there are now three possible configurations of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6, depending on the storage capacity. Starting off, there’s the one with 256GB of storage, which costs RM7,299, followed by the 512GB model for RM7,899. Topping it off is the 1TB model, which costs RM9,099. They are all now available for pre-order, but if you prefer to pick the off the shelves yourself, they will only be available starting 24 July.
