Sony has officially brought over its flagship smartphone for 2024, the Xperia 1 VI, to the Malaysian market. Announced back in May, the phone sports largely the same design as its predecessors but with internal upgrades including a more powerful chipset, an improved zoom lens, and a new display.
Firstly, the display on the Xperia 1 VI now uses a 19.5:9 aspect ratio instead of the taller 21:0 ratio. It still uses a 6.5-inch LTPO OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for protection, but the resolution has been dropped from 4K to 1080p. Another durability feature is the IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.
Under the hood, it gets the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset paired with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of expandable storage. For photography, it features a similar setup with a 48MP main camera with OIS, a 12MP telephoto lens, and a 12MP ultra-wide lens, but the telephoto has been upgraded and now comes with up to 7.1x continuous optical zoom. Powering the phone is a 5,000mAh battery with support for 30W wired charging as well as wireless charging with an undisclosed speed.
The Xperia 1 VI is available in two colour options and retails for RM6,499. Through the brand’s online store, those who purchase the phone from now until 10 August 2024 will also get a free pair of WH-1000XM5 headphones.
