We have seen rumours of both Samsung and Huawei releasing trifolding devices within the year, though industry insiders have also said that the former is waiting until next year. The latter has clearly already missed the previously rumoured Q2 window of this year, but for what it’s worth, one leakster has claimed to have had a prototype in their hands.
Digital Chat Station, a recurring name in the smartphone leakster circles, has claimed on Chinese social media Weibo to have seen a new folding prototype from a certain factory. They dub it the world’s first triple folding screen, with a roughly 10-inch screen, with the claim that it would have no competitors, at least for awhile. The post itself doesn’t specifically mention Huawei, as well as not pinning a specific date on the calendar.
So while the Weibo post is vague on those fronts, it has a corroborator of sorts in the form of another serial leakster Ice Universe, over on X, previously Twitter. The first half of said post mirrors the one on Weibo, plus mentioning Huawei specifically, while also dishing out criticisms to the South Korean tech giant.
Of course, a prototype showing up in a factory is completely unsurprising, but it’s no indication as to what the gap is like between it and a market-ready product. It could technically still make it to shelves before the calendar rolls over to 2025, though as with such rumours, it’s best not to hold your breath for it.
