Motorists travelling along the Federal Highway should be aware of upcoming lane closures and traffic diversions due to LRT3 project-related works. These closures will occur in three stages starting tomorrow on 5 July until 20 July 2024, between 11pm and 5am, impacting both Kuala Lumpur and Klang bound traffic near the Petronas and Shell petrol stations.
According to the project’s contractor, Setia Utama LRT 3, stage 1 will see the leftmost and middle lanes of the highway closed for Klang-bound traffic on 5 and 6 July. During this period, the traffic from three lanes will merge into one, causing potential delays for those heading towards Klang.
In Stage 2, the fast lanes for both Klang and Kuala Lumpur-bound traffic will be closed on 12 and 13 July. Despite the closures, motorists will still be able to use the two remaining lanes on both sides of the highway, though a slight diversion will be in place.
Finally, Stage 3 will affect Kuala Lumpur-bound traffic with the closure of the leftmost and middle lanes from 19 to 20 July. Similar to Stage 1, traffic will be diverted into a single lane, potentially slowing down the journey towards Kuala Lumpur.
For further information, motorists can contact the LRT3 helpline at 1-800 18 2585 from Monday to Friday, between 8.30am and 5.30pm, excluding public holidays.
As for the project itself, transport minister Anthony Loke previously revealed that LRT3 has surpassed 91% completion and is on track to commence its first phase of operations by March 2025. By then, the new line will connect a total of 20 stations from Bandar Utama to Johan Setia in Klang. The LRT3 project is also set to introduce five previously cancelled stations to the route by 2027, namely Tropicana, Temasya, Raja Muda, Bukit Raja and Bandar Botanik.
