Leica Malaysia has announced that the D-Lux 8 is officially available for the local market. It is the brand’s latest point-and-shoot camera, which initially made its debut globally last month.
To recap, the D-Lux 8 shares an identical design and size as its predecessor, but with a cleaner interface layout on its back that’s inspired by the brand’s Q-series cameras. Similarly, it features a weather-sealed full metal housing consisting of magnesium die-cast, along with leatherette covering.
Being a point-and-shoot camera, the Leica D-Lux 8 comes with a fixed Leica DC Vario-Summilux 10.9-34mm f/1.7-2.8 ASPH lens, which offers a 35mm equivalent focal length of 24-75mm. Meanwhile, on its back is a 2.76m-dot EVF (electronic viewfinder), as well as a 3-inch 1.24m-dot LCD touchscreen for menu navigation, image playback, and for selecting AF points while shooting.
Under the hood of the camera is a 21MP Micro Four Thirds CMOS sensor, which offers 11fps (frames per second) continuous shooting, an ISO range of 200-25600, and supports DNG format. The latter of which is a first for the brand’s D-Lux series.
The D-Lux 8 is designed to work seamlessly with Leica’s Fotos app for smart devices, allowing users to send images to their smartphones wirelessly. Speaking of which, the camera features both WiFi and Bluetooth 5.0 LE connectivity.
As for power management, packaged together with the D-Lux 8 is a removable Leica BP-DC15 lithium-ion battery with 1,025mAh capacity. Charging can be done through a compatible charger via a USB-C connection.
The new Leica D-Lux 8 is available now in Malaysia at RM8,575 for just the camera, RM9,889 for the Starter Bundle, and RM12,410 for the Pro Bundle. The first bundle comes with a size 1 premium hybrid glass, a 64GB angelbird SD card, an extra battery, and a Sofort hip bag. Meanwhile, the second shares the same accessories as the Starter, along with a carrying strap, wrist strap, camera case, auto lens cap, soft release button, while the hip bag is replaced with a Sofort crossbody bag instead.
