The Sarawak state government has announced a new prepaid internet plan for households in rural areas of the state that will cost as little as RM5 per week. The Home Prepaid Plan will be launching under its Sarawak Rural Broadband Network (MySRBN) initiative by the State Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) on 7 July.
All customers under MySRBN will start off with a free data quota of 300MB, which will be renewed every month, with speeds of up to 30Mbps. Moreover, customers will receive the indoor and outdoor equipment required for the service for free, as well as free installation and basic access training.
As for the plan itself, customers can opt for the weekly package, which only costs RM5, for a whopping 200GB of data. There is also a monthly plan priced at RM20 for a huge allocation of 1TB, which is offered with an additional weekly booster that costs RM10 for unlimited data. If users need even more internet, they can opt for the 90-day unlimited data plan for RM60 or the 180-day unlimited data plan for RM110.
Sarawak utility and telecommunications minister Julaihi Narawi said that other telcos offer similar packages at RM70/month, so the RM50 difference is subsidised by the SDEC. MySRBN currently has 490 sites serving 19,668 premises across the state. If you’re interested in the prepaid plan, you can sign up through its app.
