The macOS ChatGPT desktop app is now available to all users with Apple Silicon Macs running macOS Sonoma or higher. The app had been slowly rolling out to Mac users, starting with Plus subscribers, but today the company announced in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that it’s now available to everyone.
The app features a convenient keyboard shortcut, Option + Space, allowing users to quickly access ChatGPT from anywhere in macOS. This shortcut integrates seamlessly with the familiar macOS environment, similar to the Command + Space shortcut for Spotlight Search.

Once activated, ChatGPT appears as a chat interface overlay on the screen, replicating the website’s appearance and functionality in a native app form. Users can upload files, photos, and screenshots, enhancing the app’s usability.
OpenAI’s integration with Apple devices extends beyond macOS. In case you missed the recent developments, it was announced during WWDC earlier this month that iPhone and iPad users will also gain access to ChatGPT, including through Siri and other AI-assisted features like Writing Tools. These integrations, powered by GPT-4o, are set to roll out later this year with Apple’s new operating systems.
