[update] The domain name issues affecting Malaysiakini.com has been resolved as of this morning, 14th June 2024.

Online news Portal Malaysiakini.com has been inaccessible since the early hours of this morning. In a posts sighted on the portal’s social media pages this morning, the outage has been attributed to “technical glitches, partly due to hacking activities”.
An alternate domain https://malaysiakini.com.my is now active and accessible to readers.
[update]
We can now confirm that Malaysiakini.com’s outage is due to a DNS issue, that can be attributed specifically to their domain name. At time of writing, some users might still be able to access the site using cached DNS replies, however this will expire as well.
While DNS issues are usually easily resolved, what we have since discovered is that the domain name has been placed on a “client hold” status since yesterday. A client hold status essentially means a domain is temporarily deactivated and will not resolve until the underlying issue for the hold is resolved.
