Spotify will introduce a new yet more expensive plan later this year, Bloomberg reports, citing a person familiar with the plan. The new tier, which is speculated to be known as Supremium, would allow users access to high-fidelity (HiFi) audio streams, as well as new tools for playlist creation and managing song libraries.
It is suggested that the current individual plan is jumping to $11.99 (~RM56) monthly, and the new tier could be $5 (~RM23) more per month, bringing the total cost for the hi-fi plan to $16.99 (~RM80). The source also claims that the new tier will apparently be sold as an add-on to existing customers.
Last year, it was reported that the new “Supremium” tier was coming in late 2023 and would offer hi-fi audio. However, that plan never materialised, though this alleged newer $5 plan does seem to fit its description.
Going back further, Spotify announced plans to introduce HiFi audio features in 2021 but, like Supremium, it has never been introduced. Meanwhile, other music streaming competitors such as Apple Music and Amazon Music already offer this high-quality music as part of their offerings in the same year.
On a related note, alleged screenshots depicting the unreleased Spotify HiFi feature in action was recently shared on Reddit last month. It was revealed that the feature will be available on both the platform’s mobile app and web services, and would offer up to 24-bit lossless audio to users.
It is still unclear when Spotify will actually release Supremium or HiFi to its customers this year. Hopefully, the service will make an announcement regarding this soon – provided that Bloomberg’s report is actually accurate, that is.
