The latest rumour surrounding NVIDIA’s Blackwell GPU suggests that not all SKUs under the architecture will run on the upcoming GDDR7 graphic memory modules.
According to popular leakster Kopite7kimi, their post on X, formerly Twitter, four out of the five Blackwell GPUs – GB202, GB203, GB205, and GB206 – will ship out running on GDDR7, while the lowest-tier GB207 will still use the current GDDR6. GB202 will reportedly power the flagship RTX 5090, and could ship out with a memory bus width of up to 512-bit.
GB202 12*8 512-bit GDDR7
GB203 7*6 256-bit GDDR7
GB205 5*5 192-bit GDDR7
GB206 3*6 128-bit GDDR7
GB207 2*5 128-bit GDDR6— kopite7kimi (@kopite7kimi) June 11, 2024
Further speculation by kopite points to the GB205 GPU being used as the foundation for the RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti, with both GPU expected to run on a 192-bit memory bus and, of course, the GDDR7 memory modules.
If NVIDIA’s habits and traditions are anything to go by, then the GB207 and its alleged use of the GDDR6 memory modules will likely go to the RTX 5060, running with a 128-bit memory bus
Again, there’s no confirmation on this and as usual, NVIDIA won’t comment on unfinished or unreleased products, so we’re just going to have to wait until later this year to find out if this is the case.
