Astro today has launched the all-new sooka TV Stick, which is available to purchase starting today. This allows new and existing subscribers to enjoy their favourite sooka content on TV screens instead of mobile devices.
The new sooka TV stick is powered by Android TV, supports streaming content at up to 4K resolution, as well as Dolby Atmos audio. It is designed for ease of use, allowing users to simply plug the device to a TV’s HDMI port and immediately enjoy the platform’s services after connecting to the internet.
sooka TV Stick has more or less the same functionality as other Android TV dongles, including access to Voice Assistant and Google Play Store. That said, the device supports a variety of Android apps, including third-party streaming platforms such as Disney+, though Astro notes that Netflix is currently not supported due to “tech resource” limitations.
It’s also worth noting that the sooka TV stick uses a custom launcher on top of Android TV, featuring an all-new interface for navigation. Packaged together with it is dedicated Bluetooth remote control, which features voice recognition capabilities as well.
The sooka TV stick retails at RM349 and comes with one-month premium access, 24 free TV channels, selected On Demand content and 3 months access to Disney+ Hotstar. There’s also the 12-month Premium Plan bundle at RM579, which offers the dongle at no additional cost and 3 months access to Disney+ Hotstar. A monthly installment payment of RM50 is available if you’re opting for the latter.
Astro further notes that customers will not be bound by a contract when purchasing the sooka TV stick. Moreover, users will still be able to enjoy the free channels that are accessible through the device, even if they are not subscribed to sooka or Astro’s other offerings.
The dongle is available now, though it is exclusive to sooka’s official website for now. Astro assured that the sooka TV stick will eventually be sold via authorised retailers nationwide in the near future. For existing users, sooka’s FAQ notes that purchase of the device is only available to those who subscribed to the service via web, whereas those who use app stores (Apple or Google) will need to cancel their subscription via the in-app payment method first.
