Last year, the government unveiled the Rahmah 5G package, which are affordable postpaid plans that it whipped up together with local telcos. The package was mainly about the 60GB data plan that costs RM60/month, but it could optionally be bundled with a 5G phone for RM240, with a special RM120 discount for the first 100,000 B40 users who signed up.
Now, the government has announced that it is extending the RM120 phone subsidy under Rahmah 5G until 30 June 2024. However, it is still limited to the first 100,000 customers under the B40 category. And keep in mind, if you choose the device bundle, it will come with a 24-month contract.
Unlike last time, the extension will only involve three telcos, namely CelcomDigi, Maxis, and Yes. As of writing, none of the aforementioned telcos have put up their new Rahmah 5G bundles, so it looks like we’ll have to wait and see what devices will be offered.
In case you’re not looking for a device bundle but just want an affordable postpaid plan, Yes has increased the data cap of its Power 35 plan to 150GB with a shared hotspot allocation and unlimited calls, all for RM35/month. Another option is U Mobile’s U Postpaid 38 plan that comes with RM120GB of data and hotspot with unlimited calls for RM38/month.
