Apple’s WWDC saw the tech giant announce a laundry list of new features coming to its ecosystem. Aside from the usual stars of the show such as the iPhone, iPad, and Mac, the company will of course be introducing new updates for watchOS, tvOS, visionOS, and even the firmware for AirPods.
The AirPods Pro will be getting new hands-free Siri interactions so you don’t have to speak out loud in public. Whether it’s to answer or dismiss calls, interact with messages, or manage notifications, you’ll be able to nod your head for yes and shake your head for no to respond to Siri announcements.
Moreover, the AirPods Pro is getting the Voice Isolation technology. If you use an iPhone, iPad, or Mac, you would already be familiar with this feature that enhances voice quality and removes background noise during calls. Using the built-in H2 chip, the feature will happen on device if you own the 2nd generation Pro earbuds.
When gaming, the Pro will get lower audio latency with the new Game Mode on iOS 18 as well as enhanced voice quality. While those features are exclusive to the Pro, Apple is introducing Personalised Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking to the 3rd generation AirPods, the AirPods Pro, and the AirPods Max.
Apple Watches will see a new training mode through watchOS 11, which will use your data and metrics to analyse the impact of your workouts and give you insight on how to improve them. The firm is also releasing a Vitals app that lets you quickly glance at key health metrics. Additionally, it will add new cycle tracking features and live activities to the Apple Watch.
Its home products are getting a significant revamp with tvOS 18 and the Apple TV app, bringing major enhancements to your entertainment experience. For one thing, Cupertino is releasing a feature called InSight, which displays information about actors, characters, and even the music from Apple TV+ content in real time.
Specifically with Apple TV 4K, there will be an Enhance Dialogue feature that enables greater vocal clarity using machine learning. Subtitles will also be getting beefed up as they will automatically appear on screen when the language in the show doesn’t match the device language, when users mute, or when they skip back while watching something. For those who use projectors, tvOS 18 will bring support for the 21:9 aspect ratio.
The HomePod and HomePod mini will enable easier sharing by allowing users to join a SharePlay session bu simply tapping iPhones together or scanning a QR code to add songs to the playlist and control playback, even without an Apple Music subscription. As for the Home app, it’s adding the ability to grant access of home accessories to guests, with an activity history and time-based access.
Last but not least, the Vision Pro’s operating system is getting its first major update with visionOS 2. The upcoming update will lets users convert any image to a spatial image, with SharePlay support so you can experience the spatial images with others. It will also add train support and offer the equivalent of two 4K virtual displays when connected to a Mac as well as an ultra-wide display option.
All these updates and more will be coming to the Apple ecosytem this fall, but we won’t have an exact date until later on. If you were looking forward to purchasing the Vision Pro, it’s coming to Asia soon, but Malaysia is unfortunately still not on the company’s list.
