Panasonic has introduced the Lumix GH7, the latest flagship model in its micro four thirds mirrorless Lumix G series. The camera boasts exceptional video performance and a wide dynamic range thanks to a newly developed CMOS sensor and enhanced autofocus capabilities with PDAF (Phase Detection Auto-Focus).
Key features of the Lumix GH7 include its high-performance 25.2MP BSI CMOS sensor, which delivers high resolution and fast response, along with a 13+ stop dynamic range boost for rich gradation. The camera’s PDAF system ensures high-speed, precise autofocus, with new real-time auto-focus recognition for aircraft and trains. As for image stabilisation, featured are perspective distortion correction and powerful compensation for on-the-move shooting.
The camera is touted to excel in video quality and workflow optimisation, supporting internal recording of 5.7K 30p ProRes 422 HQ and ProRes RAW HQ, and features the world’s first 32-bit float recording. Users can apply custom LUTs directly to videos and photos in real-time, and the camera enables proxy recording for workflow efficiency. According to Panasonic, the GH7 allows unlimited video recording thanks to efficient heat dissipation and an integrated cooling fan.
Additionally, it supports native Camera to Cloud integration with Adobe’s Frame.io, allowing automatic upload, backup, and collaboration on images and videos via the cloud. There’s also the onboard Open Gate recording feature which offers flexible framing for both professional and social media based formats.
For framing assistance, on the back of the camera is a 3.68m-dot OLED viewfinder and a tilt-free angle TFT touchscreen with 1.84m-dot resolution. Other noteworthy features include built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0 support, a USB-C port for tethering and charging, a HDMI Type A connector, and dual memory card slots. The GH7 itself is touted to be capable of withstanding harsh environments with dust, splash, and freeze resistance down to -10 degrees Celsius.
The Panasonic Lumix GH7 is slated for release in select markets this July at US$2,200 (~RM) for body only. For what it’s worth, Lumix Malaysia is already promoting the camera on its official website and Facebook page, meaning that a local release could potentially happen soon.
