At this stage, leaks of the ASUS ROG Ally X have undoubtedly been plentiful and are still spring up from the brand’s rusty plumbing. It’s gotten so bad to the point that the PC brand has decidedly released all details of the gaming handheld, in all its glory.
Addressing the specs first, the Ally X really has been give a bump in several areas. The retention of the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme SoC and 7-inch FHD display you already know, but ASUS has really increased the RAM capacity of frequency from 16GB LPDDR5-6400MHz to 24GB LPDDR5X-7500MHz, as well as doubled the battery capacity from 40WHr to 80WHr.
Storage has also been doubled, from 512GB to 1TB PCIE 4.0. Further, the official reveal YouTube clip shows that ASUS has indeed gotten rid of its proprietary XG Mobile eGPU connector, and replaced instead with two USB-C ports – one being the usual 3.2 Gen2, while the other is an industry-standard USB4. In other words, eGPU connectivity is still possible but more than that, it can also be sued to connect the console to an external monitor and charge it as well.
While not explicitly mentioned in the reveal , ASUS has mentioned through various sources that the internals of the Ally X have also been shifted around in order to both accommodate and ensure that the microSD card slot doesn’t suffer from the same barbequing issue as the first Ally.
