Serial leakster site, Videocardz, managed to obtain the specs sheet of the upcoming Zotac ZONE gaming handheld. Supposedly, the chipset inside isn’t a Ryzen Z1 Extreme but the Ryzen 7 8840U APU.
Despite the 8840U, the Ryzen chip still uses the same Radeon 780M as the Z1 Extreme, and will have a 15W default operating TDP, but can max out to 28W on what is assumed to a kind of “Turbo” mode for the ZONE. It’s an odd number too, given that the ROG Ally’s Turbo mode, when paired with a 65W charger, is capable of hitting 30W.
Moving on, other alleged specifications of the ZONE include 16GB LPDDR5X RAM, followed by a 512GB PCIe 4.0 SSD. As for the battery capacity, the gaming handheld has a 48.5Whr battery, with an estimated runtime of just slightly more than an hour, although that can apparently be tweaked via the onboard settings and the titles being played on it.
We already know from earlier reports that the ZONE will be sporting a 7-inch AMOLED FHD touch display, but the latest information states it will have a peak brightness of 800 nits. As for the other parts, we now know that the joysticks and triggers are Hall Effect, and that the console will something called a Radial Dial that can be used to make “on-the-fly” adjustments. Further, storage expansion will be facilitated via a UHS-II microSD card slot, and wired connectivity and charging is expected to be done via USB4 ports, plural. We still don’t know how many ports but we’re not expecting more than two ports.
As for availability, the Zotac ZONE is expected to hit the store shelves sometime in the third quarter of this year.
