A new rumour about the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 Series has appeared, specifically about the RTX 5090. Supposedly, the top-tier GPU will be equipped with a cooler that will only take up two slots, which is intriguing, given the nature of the component.
The rumour was spouted by serial leakster kopite7kimi (@kopite7kimi), who was rebuffing an X post by OC3D, who had said another leak suggests that the RTX 5090 Founders Edition (FE) would be a 4-slot GPU, and not a 2-slot.
Recent leaks suggest that Nvidia’s RTX 5090 may feature this HUGE Founders Edition cooler. Ready for more 4-slot GPUs?https://t.co/wxqB7jWyLJ

One reason why this rumour exists is because NVIDIA has allegedly spent a lot of time optimising the cooler for its upcoming Blackwell GPU, and prototypes for the GB202 Blackwell GPU suggests that shrink in cooler size. Again, it’s a surprising rumour and one that feels highly unlikely until we see the said design, because of NVIDIA’s tradition slapping massive, clunky coolers on to their flagship XX90 GPUs.
What is expected to remain the same, however, is NVIDIA intends to retain two fans for cooling, but whether or not it will stick to its Dual Axis Flowthrough technology is still going unanswered.
So far, what is known about the RTX 5090 is that the full-fat GB202 could ship out with up to 192 streaming multiprocessors, and that it seems likely to ship out with a 512-bit memory bus. Seriously, the last time we saw a card ship out with such a massive memory bus was with the AMD Radeon R9 290X, and that was back in 2013.
As for the graphics memory capacity, it is still unclear whether NVIDIA will be opting for the 2GB or 3GB memory modules. Depending on its choice, we could be looking at an RTX 5090 with either 24GB or 32GB of GDDR7 memory.
