The new M4-powered iPad Pro and M2-powered iPad Air are now available for purchase in Malaysia, according to their respective listings on Apple Malaysia’s website, which have been updated recently. It also appears the two are currently exclusive to the brand’s first-party online store for now, as local distributors such as Switch and Machines have yet to update their respective listings for both models.
To recap, the next-gen iPad Pro series comes in 11- and 13-inch sizes, featuring Apple’s Ultra Retina XDR display with the new Tandem OLED panel. These screens support XDR precision and can reach up to 1600nit peak HDR brightness. There is an option for nano-texture glass to reduce glare, but it is only available for the 1TB and 2TB configurations, and it comes at an extra cost.
Apple claims these new iPad Pro models are its thinnest products ever, with the 11-inch version measuring 5.3mm thin and the 13-inch version at 5.1mm. Both models are powered by the new M4 chip, which offers 50% faster performance and 50% better power efficiency compared to the M2 models.
The 10-core GPU provides four times the performance of its predecessor, introducing features like Dynamic Caching, hardware-accelerated mesh shading, and ray tracing for the first time on an iPad. The M4 chip includes a 16-core Neural Processing Unit (NPU), which is 60 times faster than Apple’s first neural engine, enabling faster AI tasks such as real-time background isolation in 4K video editing. Apple states this NPU is more powerful than any neural processing unit in any current AI PC.
Camera improvements include an adaptive True Tone flash paired with a 12MP rear camera and LiDAR scanner for better document scanning, and a repositioned front-facing 12MP TrueDepth camera for improved video conferencing in landscape mode, with the return of the Center Stage feature. Connectivity-wise, the new iPad Pro models include a high-performance USB-C connector with support for Thunderbolt 3 and USB 4, Wi-Fi 6E, and 5G support in cellular models.
Meanwhile, the new iPad Air arrives in two sizes: 11- and 13-inch. Both are upgraded to feature Apple’s M2 chip, which is claimed to offer 50% better performance over the previous generation model.
Additionally, the two come with landscape-oriented front-facing camera, which is noted to be a 12MP shooter. This comes with all the prior camera tech that Apple has previously announced, primarily the Center Stage feature. The company also says that the larger model also comes with improved built-in speakers, at least on the bass department.
Pricing-wise, The M4 iPad Pro series starts at RM5,299 for the 11-inch variant and RM6,799 for the 13-inch model. On the other hand, the 11-inch model starts from RM2,999, whereas the larger 13-inch model starts from RM3,999. According to Apple’s website, deliveries for both series will only be sent out in two weeks time, provided that you place orders today.
