Apps relating to EVs and their charging points are convenient as most, if not all, of them also help you plan your charges throughout your journey. But on the flip side, paying for getting your EV charged is just about completely reliant on the very same apps. CIMB has alternative for its cardholders, as it has announced contactless payments via its cards for the process.
This is done via a collaboration with JuiceUP, a EV charging management solutions company, and Visa, the payment card company. The idea behind the endeavour is, according to its press release, “to make the payment process seamless and EV charging experience easier, eliminating the inconvenience of relying solely on EV apps”.
With the announcement, CIMB has also listed EVPower as the first charge point operator (CPO) to be partnering with the bank. Which unfortunately means that this convenience of using the bank’s cards only work with charging points operated by the company. At least, until more CPOs are partnered. For what it’s worth, both credit and debit cardholders of the bank can also enjoy up to 15% off charging services when using said cards.
In addition to allowing the use of their cards when charging EVs at EVPower charging points, the partnership between the two also means additional financing benefits for CIMB customers relating to EVs. This includes what is described as “preferential auto financing rates”, a discount of up to RM1,500 for a 22kW home charger, and a complimentary EVPower EV Plus membership. These are part of the bank’s EV campaign, which lasts until 31 December 2024. You can find out more about the campaign by visiting its own page, linked here.
