Leica has announced the Leica D-Lux 8, the latest iteration of the company’s popular point-and-shoot digital camera, which last saw a generational upgrade six years ago. As with its predecessor, the newer model promises to deliver the German camera maker’s imaging prowess into a compact and accessible form factor.
In terms of design, the D-Lux 8 looks almost identical to the D-Lux 7, save for a cleaner looking interface layout on its back. According to Leica, the latter draws inspiration from its Q-series cameras, ensuring increased user-friendliness. There’s also a 2.76m-dot EVF (electronic viewfinder), as well as a 3-inch 1.24m-dot LCD touchscreen for menu navigation, image playback, and for selecting AF points while shooting.
At the heart of the camera is a 21MP Micro Four Thirds CMOS sensor, paired with a fixed Leica DC Vario-Summilux 10.9-34mm f/1.7-2.8 ASPH lens that has a 35mm equivalent focal length of 24-75mm. Additionally, it offers 11 frames per second continuous shooting, an ISO range of 200-25600, and supports DNG format. The latter of which is a first for the brand’s D-Lux series.
Leica adds that the new D-Lux 8 works seamlessly with its Fotos app for smart devices. In other words, users can send images from the camera to their phone wirelessly, enabling them to immediately share their shots on social media platforms and so on.
The D-Lux 8 is slated to go on sale in the US on 2 July 2024, priced at US$1,595 (~RM7,527). No local release date or pricing are available just yet, but Leica Malaysia is already allowing customers to register their interest for the camera via its official website.
