Following the launch of the smart #1 at the tail end of last year, it is now the turn of the smart #3, which was unveiled at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024. Like the sister car, three variants will be made available locally – Pro, Premium and Brabus.
Being sisters, the smart #3 shares a few qualities with the smart #1, including being built on the Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform. It is the slightly larger model of the two, measuring in at 4,400mm long, 1,844mm wide and 1,556mm tall.
On to performance figures, the smart #3 Pro and Premium both have a rear-mounted electric motor pushing out 272 PS and 343 Nm of torque. A century sprint is completed in 5.8 seconds, with a top speed capped at 180km/h. The Brabus model goes for an AWD dual motor setup, with 428 PS (315 kW) and 543 Nm of torque. As a result, the 0-100km/h sprint time is down to 3.7 seconds.
For their ranges, the base smart #3 has a WLTP range of 325km provided by the 49kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. This battery has its charging rates rated at 7.4 kW AC and 130 kW DC. As for the Premium model, powering it is instead a 66 kWh nickel cobalt manganese (NMC) battery, giving it a maximum range of 455km. While the Brabus model shares the same battery as the Premium model, its maximum range is a tad lower, at 415km. But these batteries charge up faster, at 22kW AC and 150kW DC.
On interiors and features, the base Pro model of the smart #3 starts off with a 12.8-inch central screen, a 9.2-inch instrument cluster, LED headlamps that the company dubs CyberSpark, a panoramic glass roof, a powered tailgate and 19-inch wheels.
The Premium version of the smart #3 dials things up a notch, with the addition of a 10-inch heads-up display, highbeam assist for the headlamps, and even an Automatic Parking Assist feature. There’s also the 13-speaker Beats sound system to round out the list of extras. And finally, the Brabus model dials the sporty look up to eleven, with a more prominent rear spoiler, 20-inch wheels and launch control mode called Rocket Launch Mode.
With the launch of the smart 3# though, the company has not announced any prices for either of the variants. Instead, the company says that the electric car is now open for booking, with the first 333 customers do to so – with a refundable RM1,000 deposit – can get freebies worth up to RM1,500.
For what it’s worth, the brand’s UK site has prices for all three, as well as a Pro Plus model that has not been announced for the local market. Here, the Pro, Premium and Brabus models having starting prices of GBP32,950 (~RM196,617), GBP39,950 (~RM238,387) and GBP45,450 (~RM271,206) respectively.
