Microsoft has officially launched the new Snapdragon X powered Surface Pro 11 and Surface Laptop 7 today during its Microsoft Build 2024 developer conference. Both devices are introduced under the company’s new Copilot+ PC category which emphasises artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.
Microsoft claims that this new category offers up to 58% faster than the MacBook Air M3, while the built-in Qualcomm NPU is used to unlock some key functionality in the form of a vastly improved AI-centric experience in Copilot. The company adds that much of this is happening on-device, so you won’t have to wait for data to hit the cloud or pay for various pro AI subscriptions.
One notable AI feature included is Recall, which uses natural language prompts to retrieve data from your PC based on your recollections. Other features include live translations in over 40 languages during video chats and a Windows Photos tool called Super Resolution, which enhances old images.
To start things off, we have the 11th edition Surface Pro, which comes with a 13-inch PixelSense Flow OLED touchscreen with a resolution of 2880 x 1920 pixels. On its back is a 10MP camera, while in front is a QHD camera that supports the Windows Hello system. The various AI capabilities supported on this camera will be processed using the NPU built into the processor chip. I/O options consists of two USB-C with USB4 support.
Meanwhile, the 7th edition Surface Laptop comes with either a 13.8-inch or 15-inch PixelSense Flow touchscreen. Like its cousin, it also comes with a choice of both Snapdragon X chip variants, though the larger model is only offered with the Snapdragon X Elite. Memory is up to 32GB LPDDR5x RAM and storage up to 1TB Gen 4 SSD. Microsoft says the laptop’s battery offers up to 22 hours of usage.
The FHD front camera supports the Windows Hello system as well as various AI capabilities that are processed using the NPU built into the processor chip. I/O options are two USB-C with USB4 support, one USB-A 3.1, an audio jack, and Surface Connect. On the 15-inch model there is an additional MicroSDXC card slot.
