Grab has brought back the ability to book airport rides in advance after disabling the feature last year. It comes in the form of “Advance Booking BETA“, which was first piloted in Singapore back in March and has since expanded to Jakarta, Bangkok, and Ho Chi Minh City, with Manilla and Klang Valley getting a limited form of the beta that only applies to airport trips.
The enhanced feature lets users book a ride in advance ranging from two hours up to seven days. Moreover, the app claims that it offers on-time pickup assurance where the driver will arrive on time or early. In cases where you might be late to meet your driver, there is a 15 minute grace period.
For cancellations, it allows customers to cancel for free up to one hour before the scheduled trip, but late cancellations will be charged a scheduling fee. Additionally, keep in mind that you can only schedule rides to KLIA 1 and 2 in advance, not from the airports.
Given that the feature still has a “beta” label to it, it is still unclear whether Advance Booking is here to stay. In some cities, scheduled bookings come with a complimentary enhanced Personal Accident Insurance, but that does not seem to be the case in Malaysia.
