Sonos has officially pulled the curtains back from the Ace, the brand’s first-ever pair of wireless headphones. The headphones, of which rumours and whispers of its existence started all those years ago, are both technically and literally here because of popular demand.
Simplicity and fuss-free use was a key component in the design of the Ace. From the headband to the earcups, the headphones are made to minimise confusion and maximise immersion. Controls are kept to a simple, straightforward button system – one button to turn on, off, and activate Bluetooth pairing, one for the ANC, and what Sonos calls the “Content Button” that allows you to skip, repeat, play and pause, and connect it directly to your Sonos soundbar.
On that last note, The Ace is able to swap the sound of whatever you are watching from your Sonos soundbar directly to the headphones. All you have to do is press the Content Button twice. It’s a nifty feature to have, especially if it’s late at night, and you don’t want to wake up the family. However, and unsurprisingly, this feature is tethered to Sonos products only.
The earcups of the Ace are fitted with custom-designed drivers, while the cushions on the earcups are made from soft memory foam and covered in vegan leather. As an extra added bonus, the earcups are magnetic and easily detachable, adding yet another layer of simplicity for when it needs to be cleaned.
As for battery life, Sonos says that the Ace can last for 30 hours continuously, and with fast-charging support, a quick 3-minute charge will give the headphones three hours of battery life. And yes, it comes with its own USB-C cable.
The Sonos Ace headphones will be available for purchase starting 5 June 2024 and will retail for RM2,299, while preorders for the product begins today. Consumers can choose between two colours: Black or Soft White. For those that wish to preview the product, you can head over to the Sonos Concept Store over at the Starhill Gallery.
