Public works minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi has announced that six more highways in Peninsular Malaysia have agreed to implement the Open Payment Toll Collection System, Bernama reports. Slated to start in September this year, these will join the existing 12 highway concessionaires which already have the system in place since last year.
Nanta said the six highways are the North-South Expressway (PLUS), the Seremban-Port Dickson Highway (SPDH), Linkedua Highway, Grand Saga Highway, Grand Sepadu, and Setiawangsa-Pantai Expressway (SPE). All of which will provide road users the ability to use additional payment methods for tolls, apart from the usage of Touch n’ Go cards, RFID and SmartTag.
Previously, the system was implemented on Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE), Damansara – Puchong Expressway (LDP), West KL Traffic Dispersal Scheme (SPRINT), Shah Alam Expressway (KESAS), SMART Tunnel, Kuala Lumpur-Putrajaya Expressway (MEX), Sungai Besi Highway, New Pantai Expressway (NPE), Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Expressway (AKLEH), Guthrie Corridor Highway, Penang Bridge, and the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (BKE). The new additions now bring the total of participating highway concessionaires to 18.
“In the past, toll payments were only limited to the use of Touch n Go, Smart Tag and RFID, but with open payment, motorists are also given the option of making payment using credit and debit cards,” he said after reviewing the progress of the project implemented in Section 7 of the West Coast Expressway (WCE) yesterday. “The participation of these six highways means that a total of 35 lanes will be opened for the convenience of using the open payment system.”
