Canon has officially announced the development of the flagship EOS R1 camera, which is expected to launch later this year. It is promised to be a high-end, full-frame mirrorless camera, featuring significant upgrades over its predecessor.
According to Canon, the EOS R1 will feature an RF mount and is designed to offer superior performance for both video and still photography. A key highlight is its advanced image processing system, which integrates a new yet unspecified CMOS sensor and a new image processor called the Digic Accelerator, which would be running alongside the existing Digic X processor. This combination is expected to enhance the camera’s ability to handle large volumes of data quickly, improving overall performance.
One of the standout features of the upcoming camera is its enhanced autofocus capabilities, which are powered by Canon’s deep-learning technology. This enables high-speed and high-accuracy subject recognition, crucial for capturing dynamic scenes. Newly introduced is the Action Priority feature, which can identify and prioritise key subjects in real-time, ensuring the focus remains on critical moments.
Additionally, the EOS R1 will incorporate an advanced image noise reduction feature, which promises improved image quality and greater creative possibilities for photographers. Canon notes that this particular function was previously offered via its PC software, thus making it the first time for it to be available directly on its cameras.
Unfortunately, Canon has yet to reveal when the new EOS R1 flagship camera will be released. For that, we have to wait for an official announcement from the company, which may only happen in months to come.
