The Sony Xperia 1 VI is finally official and like all Xperia 1 models before it, the phone is a generational upgrade, sporting a handful of upgrades and improvements over its predecessor.
For starters, the phone is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen3 SoC, 12GB RAM, and up to 512GB of storage that is expandable via the microSDXC slot. The Xperia 1 VI is powered by a 5,000mAh battery, and supports 30W wired fast-charging too.
One of the more major changes to the Xperia 1 VI is its LTPO OLED 120Hz display. As per the initial rumours, it appears Sony has dropped the 21:9 aspect ratio, going instead for the more commonplace 19.5:9 aspect ratio. That means the phone isn’t as thin or slim as its predecessors, which should make for a more comfortable grip. It’s still 6.5-inches in size but the downside is that the resolution has been dropped to 1080 x 2340 pixels. Oh, and the display is Gorilla Glass Victus 2, so there’s that level of durability.
The next improvement on the Xperia 1 VI is the main camera. It still comprises the same 48MP wide, 12MP telephoto, and 12MP ultrawide, but with this generation, Sony is giving the 48MP the option to shoot in either 24mm or 48mm. Not only that, but the telephoto lens now has a focal length of 85-170mm or up to 7.1x continuous optical zoom. This opens up further the phone’s ability to pull off telephoto macro photography.
Audio is still at the core of the Xperia 1 VI and to that end, the phone still clearly has a 3.5mm headphone jack at the top. You get the same trimmings for wireless, lossless audio as well, such as support for 24-bit and 192kHz Hi-Res audio, as well as Sony’s DSEE.
The Sony Xperia 1 VI will be available globally starting July. At the time of writing, there is no local pricing or special bundles announced but if Sony’s last generation Xperia 1 V is anything to go by, you can expect the company to sell the phone around the RM6,000 mark. Further, Sony Malaysia says that the colours that will be available in Malaysia are the Black and Khaki Green options.
