There have been a fair number of rumours when it comes to variants for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6, including one that is said to be more affordable. Some of these were quite specific too, down to features being excluded to keep prices down. So it comes as a slight surprise to see a more recent report claiming that the South Korean tech giant is reconsidering the release of such a device.
Korean news site TheElec reports that the company is “completely reexamining” (as per machine translation) the launch of a more affordable Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6. The report claims that the reason for the potential cancellation for this more affordable model may be down to “the lack of differentiating factors”, as well as “uncertainty” in the industry this year. So far, rumours point to the more affordable model losing S-Pen support to being down prices.
As a result, the report notes that the Unpacked event later in July may only see the usual two foldables being unveiled, the other being the Galaxy Z Flip6. But for what it’s worth, the report notes that the company has also been considering an affordable version of next year’s Z Flip7 as well. It remains to be seen if the upcoming Flip6 will have an FE variant.
Being the announcement being two months away, it seems a bit late to have doubts about something like a variant for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6. Of course, none of this is set in stone, so the usual suggested dose of salt is recommended.
