Ride-hailing service inDrive has revealed that it had recently held discussions with digital minister YB Gobind Singh Deo, underlining its commitment in the local e-hailing and gig industry, as well as strengthening its partnership with the ministry. According to the company, the dialogue emphasised the significance of flexible policies and robust support structures to meet the dynamic demands of the gig economy.
As you may recall, transport minister Anthony Loke recently clarified that a price bidding system for e-hailing operators was never approved by his ministry. He added that the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) is called upon to investigate the matter as a precaution.
During the meeting with YB Gobind Singh Deo, InDrive said it highlighted its foundational principle in the e-hailing sector, maintaining app commissions at a maximum of 10% to benefit drivers and users. The company also emphasised that it consistently operates with approval from APAD, and had recently received a two-year licence renewal from the agency, valid until June 2026.
“Whether it’s determining the fare, choosing the route, or considering other factors, our aim is to provide a transparent and equitable environment by protecting the rights of the drivers and empowering the passengers decision making,” inDrive head of government relations for Southeast Asia Naufal Fauzi said in the statement. “We appreciate YB Minister’s proactive and direct approach in engaging stakeholders such as inDrive to understand the latest practice in the e-hailing industry, market’s behaviour and possible P2P (Private to Public) collaboration in future.”
inDrive added that it is reaffirming its commitment to aligning with Malaysia’s digital entrepreneurship ecosystem, supported by Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and the Ministry of Digital. It also aims to foster collaboration between industry stakeholders and government leaders to optimise outcomes for the digital industry and its consumers.
Looking ahead, inDrive said it is dedicated to working closely with the ministry and relevant agencies to ensure the continued growth and sustainability of Malaysia’s gig economy. This collaboration aims to drive innovation and enhance the overall digital landscape in the region.
