Ubisoft has officially changed the title of Assassin’s Creed (AC) Red, renaming it to Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The game is the long-awaited Japan-themed AC title, and a full reveal trailer is scheduled for 15 May at 9 AM PT, which is midnight the following day for us.
Ubisoft announced the change via X, formerly Twitter, with a GIF showing the new title placed on top of a massive hourglass. That, and the massive backdrop of a street of Japanese shops reinforce the game’s theme and setting. Note that the post says that the reveal is going to be a cinematic trailer, so we don’t expect any in-game footage to be shown.

AC Shadows was one of several announced titles for the franchise, and was described as the studio’s “future of our open-world RPG games on Assassin’s Creed.” The title is a significant milestone for Ubisoft too – since the IP’s inception, the publisher has been notoriously resistant to an AC title based in Japan, presumably for fear of contributing to the cliche and fatigue of ninjas, subterfuge, set within feudal Japan.
In any case, we’ll just have to wait until tomorrow to watch the trailer for AC Shadows.
