AMD’s rusty plumbing have sprung new leaks surrounding both its RDNA4 and, unsurprisingly, RDNA5 architectures. Supposedly, the former is set to just be what the source is calling a “bug fix” to the current RDNA3 architecture, while the latter will be an entirely new, next-generation graphics architecture.
The source of the leak comes by way of hardware leakster “wjm47196” on the China-based Chiphell forums. Supposedly, AMD initially had plans on making RDNA4 an entirely different animal but chose instead to make it a refinement of RDNA3, with higher performance and faster ray-tracing capabilities. It will also be used in Sony’s upcoming PlayStation 5 (PS5) Pro.
What RDNA4 will be lacking, however, are variants of high-end GPUs, a detail that seemingly coincides with earlier rumours of a cancelled Navi 41 GPU. Those new high-end and high-octane GPUs will now be released under the RDNA5 architecture. There are no concrete release dates yet but if one were to go by AMD’s trend and habits, we won’t see the GPUs until 2025 or 2026.
Beyond that, there’s no further information about RDNA5.
